Encased in sweet aromas and smoking sizzling stir-fries, the Ubud Food Festival was held in the mountainous jungles of Ubud with breathtaking views of the sunken valleys below. Mirah Investment & Development spoke in a panel with world-renown chefs and artisans to share the success of KONG and Hujan Locale as well as give advice to aspiring food & beverage professionals.
Ubud’s annual Food Festival is to celebrate cultural delicacies- specifically with an Indonesian focus- and cuisines with a three-day celebration. Held from the 24th until the 26th of June, the festival included food stands, live music and entertainment, and a panel of experienced food and beverage industry experts that spoke and shared their stories to an eager and excited audience.
With the theme “Heroes”, the festival brought light to chefs and artisans across the world as well as celebrated the recovery of the event after its two-year hiatus due to recent global developments. The festival brought in over 8,000 attendees, 85 food stands, and 100 speakers throughout the three days. People explored the workshops, cooking demonstrations, food tours, and masterclass performances hosted in the Ubud Food Festival (UFF), all while getting a deeper appreciation for Indonesian culture.
“We want you to meet the unsung heroes of Indonesian food, the mothers and fathers who cook their age-old family recipes at home. We want to celebrate their immense contribution to creating the flavours we all love. But we also want to pay homage to our young Covid-heroes, our food and agro-preneurs who have created new careers and brought impressive innovation into the culinary arena,” said UFF Founder and Director Janet DeNeefe.
The event not only allowed local businesses to show off their talents and tastes, but it also was a platform for many cuisine artists to share and promote themselves.
James Runciman got the honour of presenting at the festival on his experiences with how technology and media influence can assist in growing a restaurant. Sitting alongside Mediterranean Chef Camille Massard Combe (Kamil) and a representative from Chope, James Runciman brought a fresh look to what it meant to be media aware, as well as sustainable when it comes to opening and running a restaurant.
“At Mirah [Investment & Development], we focus on making our restaurants’ experience very user-friendly; and that includes offline and online. It’s important to keep an updated page, website, socials, interactions, etc… for our restaurants because it allows us to connect between with our customers…
…The same goes for being sustainable, many restaurants in Bali are ‘going green’… and incorporating that idea in your restaurant is not only better for the planet but better for your business as well,” James said.
The festival gave Mirah Investment & Development the opportunity to promote and share the success of Kong and Hujan Locale well as many upcoming dining developments; food lovers were able to ask questions and learn more about the industry after each panel session and hear first-hand accounts from James and the other culinary experts.
